Improving results for children with severe speech sound disorders
Teresa Farnham is a popular speaker on the subject of rapidly improving the speech of children who are highly unintelligible. Using the research of Judith Gierut and others, Teresa has developed an evaluation and therapy planning process that leads to children moving from unintelligible speech to intelligible speech, usually during the course of a single school year. Teresa implemented this approach for over 10 years as a school-based speech-language pathologist, with consistently great results.
Teresa also presents a full-day workshop on this subject for the Bureau of Education and Research. Dates, times and registration information can be found here.

Identify key components of reliable language sample elicitation, according to research.

Video Modeling as a communication and behavior learning tool for Individuals with significant learning difficulties
With tablets and smart phones readily at hand, video models for individuals who have pragmatic language disorders, autism, intellectual disabilities, difficulty with social interaction or who use AAC can open the way to greater understanding of complex situations and greater independence in community interactions.
Video is a powerful tool, which has the advantage of focus ing attention on the key issues at hand, such as: What is the point of playing tag? How do you do it? By watching a model, perhaps at reduced speed, or with subtitles or various vantage points, an individual can learn how to interact in what is typically a fast-moving situation, with no time for repetition or clarification. Individuals can also learn to evaluate their own performance by reviewing it on video.
This hands-on workshop will allow participants to script and create a video for use with their clients.
